Sometimes it is a notebook, sometimes a folder full of documents, and sometimes it is twenty browser tabs opened five minutes before the session.

Moonvault is the place I wanted behind my own GM screen: a local-first tabletop RPG campaign manager where worlds, campaigns, characters, locations, encounters, and session notes stay connected without leaving my computer.

Prep the world, then run the table

Moonvault stores your vault as portable Markdown files, so your campaign notes remain readable and yours. Inside the app, you can:

Build worlds and organize multiple campaigns.

Connect NPCs, locations, factions, lore, and sessions with wikilinks and backlinks.

Prepare encounters, roll initiative, track HP, conditions, rounds, and turns.

Create random tables, roll dice, and keep a useful roll history.

Manage fantasy calendars, maps, parties, monsters, and player characters.

Use system-aware tools for D&D 5e, Shadowdark, OSE, Tormenta20, or system-agnostic games.

There is search when I forget the name of the tavern, pinned pages when the party refuses to leave it, and a focused session mode for the moment the players choose the one road I did not prepare.

Your campaign stays yours

Moonvault does not require an account or a custom cloud. A vault is a normal folder that can live on your machine, in Dropbox or iCloud Drive, or wherever you already keep important campaign files.

That is the heart of Moonvault: fast game-master tools on top of durable, portable RPG notes.

The vault is open.
